Eclipse serve up key ingredient for prisoner-led restaurant

Eclipse have cooked up an important role at a new prisoner-led restaurant at HMP Wormwood Scrubs in London run in collaboration with TV presenter Fred Sirieix’s The Right Course charity.

We will be installing a CCTV system in the new coffee shop and full table service restaurant, the second opening from Fred’s charity programme which aims to give prisoners the cooking, service and business skills they need to secure hospitality jobs on their release.

Fred explained: “The aim is to ensure offenders learn the skills and values of hospitality so that upon release they can gain employment thus reducing re-offending (currently about 50%) and helping to solve the skills and staff shortage in the restaurant hospitality business.”

Using existing facilities and equipment, the first Right Course prison operation was opened at HMP Belmarsh in Thamesmead in 2017 and the charity hopes to work with prisons across the UK in the future.

Prisoners taking part have also been given the chance to cook alongside chefs from some of London’s leading restaurants.

Daren Wood, Eclipse’s head of sales and marketing, said: “As providers of security solutions to HM Prison Service at locations across the UK, we’re proud to be involved with this positive initiative that will make a difference to prisoners’ lives and future prospects.

“Our experienced team of CCTV system engineers is looking forward to getting on site this month and seeing the Staff Mess at HMP Wormwood Scrubs transformed into a vibrant restaurant and coffee shop ready to open in April.”
